Addiction and Sustainability
Just an alcoholic is addicted to alcohol, society is addicted to fossil fuels. This metaphor isn’t new.
Yet, what if we don’t just use it as a metaphor, but what if we actually try to understand what drives it?
The driver of addictions are unmet needs.
Fossil fuels promise to meet our needs.
It doesn’t.
Needs are unmet.
That’s why sustainability is not just about consuming less and taking public transport. Instead it’s about the most fundamental questions of humanity to uncover our needs: What am I here for? Who or what am I? What do I want to do with this life?
