Good Night Everyone.
I have recently been to the US. The flight covered all the Carbon Emissions I’d theoretically be allowed to use in a year. When I flew in, the first thing I noticed was that I got fearful. It seemed that every foreigner is a potential threat to the country. People seemed suspicious and cautious about each other. And I wonder…
What kind of world do we live in if I can’t leave my suitcase unattended when I have to pee.
I went to a wedding. We ate of plastic dishes and drank out of plastic cups. One cup for each drink.
What kind of world do we live in where one person fills a whole back of garbage in one night.
I spend the night at my friend’s house. He can’t fall asleep at night. He takes a sleeping pill and is out within 30 minutes.
What kind of world do we live in that we have to take medication to fulfill our most basic human need.
We get some groceries and we want to eat healthy after the wedding feast. 90% of our shopping card is filled with greens, vegetables, and fruits. Nothing organic. We put everything in plastic bags. We pay. We put it in plastic bags again.
What kind of world do we live in that manipulates food so it takes less effort.
I meet a guy who. two hours ago, got out of prison and is on his way home. He is happy to see his family soon. He tells me about his plans and goals. He wants to work a lot so he can buy his kids nice stuff.
What kind of world do we live in where people believe that a toy is worth more than time.
I love every single person I meet. Every single person has good intentions. Nonetheless, I see destruction. For the planet. For them. A society that strives to live the dream and meanwhile forgets to wake up.
PS: The US is only a representative of problems that we are facing all over the world. Germany is not much different. Being an outsider though makes it easier to observe.
